My passion for this industry set ablaze in NYC backstage styling as a key celebrity stylist at the BET Black Girls Rock! Awards which aired on BET November 4th. I was uber honored to be a celebrity stylist at the prestigious “last look” station where I provided the finishing touches for many of the celebrities right before they graced the stage. Curling and laughing. Smoothing and Sharing. Networking and Learning. Servicing the needs of real people who just so happened to be titled “celebrity” in measure.
The fulfillment I got wasn’t so much in the celebrity stylist status aspect- I absolutely considered it an honor to be affiliated with BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc., a non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.
The BET BLACK GIRLS ROCK! AWARDS highlights the accomplishments of exceptional women of color who have made outstanding contributions in their careers, and who stand as inspirational and positive role models in their communities.
It’s always a thrill working along side my industry peers such as Toni Acey, Tippi Shorter, Tekao Hash, and other phenomenal celebrity stylists and MUAs. Truly, iron sharpens iron. This year’s award show was hosted by actresses Tracee Ellis Ross & Regina King. Music performances included Alicia Keys, Brandy, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Indie Arie, SWV, Missy Elliot, Anthony Hamilton, & Eric Benet.
